“The mightiest works start with the smallest steps. Like the skipper who simply hoisted the sails for the yacht to circumnavigate the globe or the farmer who simply planted the seeds that grew into an abundant harvest.” … Unknown
Everybody’s looking for the fireworks. The government Gaming Commission makes a fortune off of people who are hoping to solve their financial woes with a big lottery win. We watch T.V. and see our firework-loving tendencies reinforced through Extreme Makeovers, Extreme Sports, Extreme “Survivors” and … well you get the picture. Fast food joints offer everyone instant dinners, Internet dating sites promise instant solutions to your loneliness challenges and we seem to have forgotten: in the midst of all of this, that realistically: problems are solved one step at a time.
Every day my return to health is accomplished by a number of little positive things. At first that looked like staying awake for more than 4 hours out of every 24. Later I was delighted to find that I could get myself out of bed … on my own … without pain! Yesterday I went grocery shopping. Now that may not sound like your idea of a good time, however, I have to tell you that, for me, it was a HUGE step forward.
I used to only look at the destination and measure all of my progress against that. You know what that means don’t you? Yes, that’s right … I was always feeling not good enough … because I wasn’t “There” yet. Today, I still am looking at a goal and dreaming/intending/planning on how to get there. The difference is that now I recognize each step that I take as the victory that it is. I am finally giving myself pats on the back for hanging in there and moving forward. And you know what? Even though the steps are small I’m a lot happier because, finally, I see that I really am “good enough”. Wow … that’s a big step forward all in itself!
Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone!
