Life – The Theme Park Edition

“ I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.”  …  Arthur Rubenstein

Our world is like the most amazing theme park in the universe.  There is everything here that anyone could ever want to experience!  For those who like scary rides there are geologically unstable areas in which humans have set up precarious little settlements.  For those whose preference is “action” there are war torn places galore and for those whose idea of a good time is to kick back, take pictures and relax there is beautiful scenery and pleasant locales aplenty.  Our world is indeed a fascinating place.

It has been my observation that no matter who we are, what economic snack bracket we inhabit or political views we may hold we are certain of only three – not two – things in life: death, taxes and an assortment of good and challenging times.  As far as I can tell there’s nothing that can be done about the first one – life being a journey from birth at the one end to an earthly exit at the other.  I’m not interested or savvy enough to have a big discussion about the middle one.  So that leaves me with only the last one about which I can do anything at all.

Good times and bad times come and go.  They flow around us and sometimes they happen to us.  Everyone has them.  Everyone has BOTH of them.  So what is it that makes some of us feel like we’re living a blessed and joyful life and others see only the dark cloud obscuring the silver lining?  I think that a lot of it is an attitude.  By that I mean if I get up in the morning, stub my toe on the kids toys, find out that the hot water heater is broken and my shower has turned into a frigid one and discover that my clock ran out of batteries last night and it’s really an hour later than I thought I bet my attitude is going to be really harassed and grumpy.  It doesn’t have to be … but there’s a good chance it will be.  And then that’s just going to affect the whole darn day.

On the other hand; if I remember that the Universe built and designed this theme park for my exploration, then I stand a better chance of not being caught up in the drama of it all.  If I walk around o-o-o-o-h-ing and a-h-h-h-h-ing about the amazing ways in which everyone gets to experience life and how those many and varied ways lead to more experiential options that lead to even more choices that lead to … well you get the idea … then I can raise my voice in delighted laughter and awe.  When I appreciate the blessings that Life has given me and keep my eyes open for more of the same – even when said blessings seem to be hidden – then I get to experience more beauty and Life is free to generously shower me with more great stuff.  As Arthur Rubenstein said: “I have found that when you love Life, Life will love you back” … time for a love fest!!
