Taking responsibility for my actions

“When you live in reaction, you give your power away. Then you get to experience what you gave your power to.”    …   N. Smith

In this world it is oh-so-easy to find targets at which to point our fingers.  There just seems to be an enormous number of people who live for being annoying.  I’m sure that they don’t really get up in the morning and wonder: “Who could I bother today?” … but boy sometimes it sure seems like it.

Over the years I’ve learned that … when it comes to annoying, irritating or downright ornery people or circumstances … I have two options:  a) I can take a deep breath … count to 10 (or 100 for the really big things) … and make my response from that calm space  … or b) I can leap off the end of the dock … sword in hand … yelling “Geronimo” as I go.  Over the years I’ve also learned that the latter tactic tends to reap me a large harvest of misunderstandings … challenging relationships … and feeling generally bad about myself.  Well that’s hardly worth the momentary euphoria of leaping before I look!

I’ve learned to keep a keen inner eye peeled for people and circumstances that seem to be inviting a confrontation … so that … once noted … I can either walk away … or take my stand with due consideration for the outcome.  I’m finding that the constant presence of Perky Polly and Sunshine Sue are really helping to minimize my “Attractor Factor” for aforementioned people, places and situations.  If said people wander into our world … determined to make a ruckus … we all do our best to remember to grab hold of Life’s hand … listen to Its great suggestions … and respond rather than react.

I like how I feel … now that so many of the internal landmines have been defused and/or removed.  Instead of living in constant reaction to other people’s stomping on aforementioned, buried triggers … these days … I am hardly ever held hostage to other’s behaviours and demands … and I am … predominantly … much freer to maintain control of my own center and actions.  Life has taught me that considered action allows Perky, Sunshine and I to travel through life with way more joy … far less stress … and a lot more fun.  We are enjoying this new way of living enormously!  Three cheers for conscious responding … Hip-hip-hooray! … Hip-hip-hooray! … Hip-hip-hooray!

Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone.
