It’s all in how you look at things … I choose the “Happiness” glasses

“I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our disposition and not on our circumstances.” … Martha Washington

Over the last few years I have wandered down some strange and disconcerting paths.  As I spent time on “Hospital Avenue” I noticed what a microcosm of society the halls of a hospital are.  Contained … all in one building … one can find “Misery Lane”; Hope-Filled Blvd., Resignation Road and even the “I’m-Not-Paying-Attention Highway”.  Needless to say I didn’t find very many signs proclaiming: “This way to Happiness.”

At first Perky Polly and Sunshine Sue were really disconcerted.  Apart from me there didn’t seem to be anyone who recognized them and definitely not a lot of people who thought that their approach to life should be shared in these “serious” times.  “Ah-h-h well girls” I said, “Don’t let other people’s attitude get you down.  They’re just walking down the road with different glasses than us … and there’s nothing that we can do if they missed the line-up for the “Happiness” ones … other than be our natural, optimistic and cheerful selves!”

I understand … better than ever before … that everything in life may not always be wonderful.  I get-it that not every circumstance is going to be cause for celebration … and having said all of that I also understand that if I am not responsible for my own outlook throughout said challenging times … that no-one else is going to … can … or should do that for me!  Only I have the ability to re-landscape my inner world and only I have the ability to carry said newly re-created and beautified inner “Me” out into the world.

As Martha Washington said … over 300 years ago … “the greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our disposition and not on our circumstances.”  Together, capital “L” Life and I have walked the walk and now … we’re talking the talk.  Miss Perky and Ms Sunshine have a greater depth of compassion and ability to listen … whilst still retaining their sunny dispositions … than ever before.  The tough times have tempered us and the challenging circumstances have deepened our conviction that … no matter what is happening around us … happiness begins and continues … inside first.

Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone

I’m so with you on this one! The difficulty is in making the decision, sounds incredibly simple, and really is. Love you!

Yes indeed Monika … the challenge really is to make the choice isn’t it!??! For me … after everything that has gone … I just can’t see NOT making the choice for happiness … after all … look at the alternative … Blegh!! 😀
