“Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” … Ralph Waldo Emerson
Have you ever thought to yourself that you were pretty sure that you knew where you were heading in life? Have you ever thought: “A-h-h-h now I’ve got it.”? Have you ever watched … with your jaw on the floor … as life came along and just kicked your feet right out from under you and left you muttering: “Wow … never saw that one coming.”? Yeah … me too!
It’s a funny thing about life … sometimes it just doesn’t go the way that we think it’s either going to go… or should go. I know that it has left me on numerous quasi-overgrown trails and border paths with little or no warning whatsoever. I used to worry about that … but finally I learned to shrug my shoulders and simply get used to walking down unmarked paths leaving metaphoric Post-It notes on the trees and shrubs behind me … so that others wouldn’t feel quite so alone.
The other night my son kindly pointed out to me that there are a lot more “signs” on my path than I thought … I just wasn’t recognizing them as such. It turns out that Life has been leaving Its own Celestial Post-It notes for me to find. Miss Perky is really happy about this new development as she was definitely losing her perk from being the official “machete-swinger-and-brush-clearer”! Looks like our lonely trail-blazing days are over. With Life acting as both Scout and Guide for our forays into the future the paths look to be a lot less overgrown and buggy … a lot more friendly and easy to find … and filled to the brim with sunshine and beautiful scenery. Well … I’m going to have to run … the girls have bought cute, new hiking boots and are dancing at the door in anticipation of fun times with Life.
Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone!
