“He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of little children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who has left the world better than he found it; who has always looked for the best in others and given them the best he had.” … Bessie Stanley
Wow … I really hope that I become successful … well at least successful according to Bessie Stanley’s definition. I know that I still need to address a few things on the “Things to Do Before I Die” list … and no I’m not talking about places to visit … although that would probably be nice too … I’m talking about the remaining areas of the internal landscape that need some pretty-hefty clean-up and about bringing out some of the really nice qualities that have been hiding inside for years.
I like to think that I’ve got at least a toe on the Be-A-Good-Person road. With Perky Polly and Sunshine Sue as my ever faithful companions I pretty much have the “laugh often” thing mastered. I’ve always been a really loving person … the challenge in the past has been letting myself trust people enough to show it. These days my Discernment Radar is so finely tuned and my inner boundaries are so firm that I am finally comfortable smiling at pretty much all and sundry. Kids seem to really appreciate my sunny disposition and whilst I haven’t “filled my niche” yet I am certainly giving it the-old-college-try.
Life and I have been having some serious chats recently with regards the “leaving the world a better place than I found it” idea. As usual Life’s ideas of a “better place” differ slightly from mine … but that’s O.K. … friends are allowed to have differing viewpoints about things … and if truth-be-told I actually like It’s ideas … they’re just so fair and balanced. With Life beside me it’s becoming easier and easier to not only look for but to actually see the best in other people. Who knew that so many people had such awesome and wonderful souls hiding out inside of those prickly exteriors!??! Well I guess I better get moving … Life has some pretty exciting thoughts about how we can co-create “better” and still have fun in the process … and it just wouldn’t do to keep Life waiting … now would it!??!
