“Some of the best opportunities in life are the ones that we never even saw coming.” … Susanne
If twelve years ago you had told the woman whom I was … the one who had just lost her 18 years old son to a car crash that: “Everything will be O.K.” she would have told you that you were crazy.
If … five years ago you had told that woman … who was … at this point … thinking that maybe everything actually would be O.K. … and who then got the news that she had to have 1/3 of one of her lungs removed because of an invasive tumor … that everything would be sunny and bright … she would have told you: “Thank you very much for sharing.”
Oh … and if somewhere in the last four years … during which I waged a successful war against bone marrow cancer and then fought and beat one of those new-fangled bacteria that hate antibiotics and love to munch you up … that: ”You are going to come out this transformed and on a new path.” I would have said: “Damn straight … and next time Life could we pick an easier way to get here!??!”
You never know where life is going to lead you. Sometimes we think that we’ve got the road all mapped out and then boom … just like that … that road blows up right in front of you. Now if you’re a glass-half-empty type person that blown up road could be the end of the road … the place where you sit looking backwards and waiting for Capital “L” Life to take you Home. But if you happen to have your own inner Perky Polly or Paul … and if you’re willing to give Life a chance to show you a new path … then that blown up bridge can be the best thing that’s ever happened to you.
After everything that has happened and after rediscovering my inner Miss Perky and Ms Sunshine … I have to say that I am in a good space. I’m happy with who I’m turning out to be. I’m thrilled to be on the green side of the grass and this new road that Life picked out for me has some absolutely delicious moments. Now that my ear muffs have come off and my tunnel vision has been miraculously cleared I see that today is the best day of all … that every day is the best day of all .. and that the opportunities to be this new person … to do these new things and to walk this new way are the awesome gifts that Capital “L” Life was waiting to give me. I just never saw them coming.
