“If you want something that you’ve never had, then you have to do something that you’ve never done.” … Unknown
A brilliant young physicist by the name of Albert Einstein once said: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” Oh yeah … isn’t that so true … and yet … how many of us are out there absolutely convinced that if we just give it that old-college-try one … more … time … that this time will be different. I have to tell you that from my experience … one more attempt to make the wrong relationship work … or the just-a-little-too-small clothes fit … or the I-hate-my-boss job flow smoothly is not going to make things better.
I think that this common misconception comes from our childhood … is reinforced by teachers … and is nailed in place by lovers and partners. I don’t know about you but my mom was really big on “giving it (whatever “it” happened to be) one more try” and giving people “one more chance” (whether they deserved it or not). She never did get that sometimes the best thing you can do in life … for yourself … and for everyone around you … is simply to walk away.
Now I’m not talking about giving up on people who are genuinely doing their best and I’m not in any way suggesting that anybody give up on their dreams …but I have learned that if I’m banging my head against a wall and going nowhere … then all I’m going to get is a sore forehead and a big bruise. Even my eternally bright and enthusiastic companions: Miss Perky and Ms Sunshine, understand that sometimes enough is just enough.
I’m really fortunate in that the girls, Life and I are all big fans of exploring new horizons … trying out new things … and doing things that we’ve never done before. That’s really good … it keeps me from being bored … allows me to do things that I’ve never done and keeps me always on the lookout for the things I’ve never had. After all the years of trying to make the same-old, same-old look, feel and act differently I have finally wised up and decided to go-with-the-flow. Life is an adventure and I am having a lot of fun. Wave if you pass me out on the road and we’ll share a smile knowing that each of us is on our way to somewhere that we’ve never been. Oh yeah!
Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone.
