“Your future is waiting for you to stop pressing Rewind.” …Thema Bryant-Davis
I hear so many people retelling the same stories from their past … over and over and over again. I get it that they might feel that if they stop constantly replaying the challenging parts of their lives that they’ll be letting any and all past perpetrators off the hook. I used to feel that way too.
Buddha said: “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” I finally figured out what he was talking about a few years ago and from that point onwards the Celestial Clean-up Crew and I started to remove my emotional hot-coals and I began to take my power back.
For me … what’s really at the foundational level of all that holding on is that … whilst I was growing up … I may not have had oodles of choice about the manner in which the adults in my life behaved. However; right here and right now … I am the adult … and the choice to either create my life anew or keep wearing the past like a pair of unattractive, misery-tinted eyeglasses is mine and mine alone.
The “Rewind” button has become … with a few small exceptions … a thing of the past. Miss Perky and I have discovered the Fast-forward button instead! We’re so excited about all of the awesome possibilities that Life has up Its jumbo-sized sleeve that we’re positively beaming. Life is threatening to remove aforementioned Fast-forward button as It says that It wants to see the look on our faces when Its surprises actually show up here on Planet Earth. So … we’re learning to a) bounce up and down excitedly in the present moment, b) try to keep our squeals of excitement to a dull roar, and c) indulge Life as it prepares yet another synchronistic event … aka “SURPRISE!”
Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone
