“Happiness comes not from the acquisition of more stuff but from recognition that in our Spirits we are already unimaginably O.K.” … Susanne
I understand that everything is definitely not always right with the external world. I get it that all over this planet there are people fighting and dying … controlling and being controlled … starving and suffocating – both from lack of nutrients and from lack of emotional content. I understand that in every moment and in every place things may not be perfect. But I also understand that in each of those moments lies a seed of possibility from which can spring an internal world where the Just-Right feeling is all-pervasive.
Over the last few years Life walked me down a hard road … one filled with potholes and snipers … so that I could truly understand this lesson. In the midst of chaos … with our dinged-but-still-cute, pink helmets and flak jackets firmly in place … Miss Perky and I learned to stride forward where … as the old saying goes … “Angels fear to tread”. It was during one of our brief respites in a Life-provided foxhole that we finally really got it as to why everybody had not previously been jumping on the Happy Wagon with us.
I’m happy to report that the benefits and compassion stemming from that great “Ah-ha” have lasted far past the actual moment. These days Miss Perky and I can be found offering smiles of reassurance and a listening ear to all and sundry. Life has donated a nice park bench under a shady tree so that weary sojourners can sit and rest a spell before they continue to their own next challenge. Miss Perky is sharing ice cream cones on the assumption that a little ice cream makes everybody’s day perkier and Ms Sunshine is handing out snazzy eyewear as a reminder that whilst the outside world may look a little bleak sometimes … with the right view … and; of course, the right, focused eyewear … the internal world can light up like the sun.
