“The Ego and the mind aren’t things that need to be killed off ~they just need to be reminded that their true purpose is to contribute their worldly knowledge to help co-create a beautiful future with our Hearts and Spirits.”… Susanne
It seems that there are a great many people in the world … dare I say “most” … who feel … and preach … that the mind and the ego of human-kind need to be subjugated ~at best; or Killed ~at worst. They use every excuse and rationale from religious writings to new-age visions and up to and including psychological studies …to prove that our mind and egos are evil, twin predators whose sole purpose is to entice the innocent off of the path … whatever they perceive this to be … into the Land of Independent Thinking.
Now it seems to me that we’d be kind of lost without all of the accumulated knowledge that our minds have picked up on our trek through the world. I mean seriously … what would life be like if we forgot how to eat … or to stop at red lights … or put together coherent sentences? And whilst it’s true that a wild, uncontrolled ego can get us into more trouble than an outspoken two-year old … we do need a certain amount of self-confidence to manage on a day-to-day basis. So … what can we do to transform these “necessary evils” into best friends?
It has been my observation that if I try to hogtie my ego and mind and chain them in a corner somewhere out in the back-of-beyond the only results I get are 1) a very grumpy self, 2) a lot of simmering resentment and 3) an extremely volatile temper. However … as I learned to manage the aforementioned grumpy-duo with respect for what they have to contribute and firm boundaries with regards what they are … and are not allowed to do and say I found that they were actually quite relieved to not have to shoulder the entire burden of running my life anymore!
Needless to say we’re all a lot happier now that we’ve learned how to get along. It turns out that my mind is a way better accountant than Miss Perky and I and that my ego … now that it has figured out the “Politeness Rules”… is a huge cheerleader for the Girls and my positive outpourings. A friend once told me that the ego is a sergeant masquerading as general … and he was right. Now that we’ve all got our roles down pat … and the infighting has ceased … it is so-o-o-o much easier for Life to prosper us … and we are all smiling about that one!
