“Be the person who you wish other people were.”… Susanne
I think that sometimes we’re so busy looking at what we think everyone else is doing … listening to what we think they’re saying … and judging them on both of those perceptions that we forget to stop pointing our fingers long enough to try to understand them. It seems odd to me that we all want to be heard … and yet … we have forgotten how to extend that same consideration to others.
When kids are really little they hear and see everything. They hear what we’re actually saying and they see what we’re actually doing. They may not understand it all because they’re still working their way through the layers of lies that pass for social politeness that we … as adults … plop on top of every communication … but they do hear and see. How do we know that this is true? Well … if you’ve ever had the kids in your life repeat … in public … exactly what you have said or done … behind closed doors … you’ll understand right away what I mean when I say that kids hear and see everything.
Somewhere between here and there the authority figures in our lives had their way and we all caved into the pressure to conform. We never stopped wishing that other people would see and hear the real us … past our insecurities and wounds. We just gave up and went along with the flow. Now I’m not saying that a little politeness isn’t a great thing … no-one really wants to listen to Miss Perky’s … or anyone else’s … unvarnished opinion when they are truly ticked off.
What I am saying is that we need to start finding ways to uncover the awesome Spirits who came here to play … pick them up … dust them off … and relearn how to … not only share our own beautiful Spirits … but also to see, hear and appreciate other people’s as well. Let’s try approaching other people as if they actually are amazing Spirits having a Human adventure. Let’s try it for one week and see what happens. After all … what have we got to lose … other than a whole lot of hostility, misunderstanding and pain?
