“In life there will always be someone or something that wants to squash your Joy. The question is: “Are you going to let them?” … Susanne
In my life there’s been lots of times that have brought me previously, unimagined joy. On the flip side there’s been quite a few times … and people … who seem to have gone out of their way to stomp that aforementioned joy into the ground. Now I know that the vast majority of them probably didn’t wake up in the morning and say to themselves: “What can we do to make Susanne miserable today?” … but at the time it sure felt like it. Have you ever had one of those days? Have you ever hit the end of that day and wondered: “What the heck just happened here?” … Yeah … me too.
As I wandered through … not just a series of incidents and days … but a series of years filled with that kind of stuff it occurred to me that … as I couldn’t do a lot to change my outside world and the people in it … I had better figure out better internal coping mechanisms. Somewhere in that years-long journey I discovered Miss Perky parked dejectedly in a corner . After a few long chats … much mutual commiseration about the state of the nation – both personally and externally …. and many hugs we became best friends and have been traveling together ever since.
I give a lot of credit to Capital “L” Life for not giving up on me during my more surly and grumpy periods and for continuing to drop awesome and caring people onto my path for my consideration. It took awhile for the Celestial Clean-up Crew and I to clear out the old junk that had accumulated in my war-torn, inner world … but now that we have things are definitely “perking” up. With my inside-sunshine beaming it’s a lot easier to ignore the nay-Sayers and joy-stompers of the world and to let Life’s gifts in. Life is good … and if some people don’t recognize that yet … or think that the best way to feel better is to make someone else feel yucky … well Miss Perky & I figure that they just haven’t found their BIF (Best Inner Friend) yet … so we simply smile … wish them all the best … and dance on.
Godspeed and Joyful Journeying Everyone.
