“When challenging times come along and threaten to drown us there’s basically two things that we can do … we can tread water and hope that someone saves us or we can swim to shore and save ourselves.” … Susanne
There’s no doubt that there’s a lot of challenging stuff going on in the world these days. I suppose that there always has been … it’s just that with the current speed of transmission of information it sometimes seems like a never-ending flood of bad news. And many people don’t even have to listen to the world news to be inundated with the darn stuff … all they have to do is look outside their front door. So how are we supposed to deal with all of this stuff?
Carlos Castaneda said; “We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” In my life that translates to: 1) a recognition that S#*t happens … 2) an understanding that I can’t necessarily stop it from happening … and 3) a knowing that it’s my choice how I react to it … and therefore how I act.
Despite the journey that I have walked … or maybe because of it … people tell me that I’m one of the most inspirational people they know. Why is that? The quick answer would be that Miss Perky won’t let me live any other way. But the real answer would have to include things like: truly believing that my inner attitude hugely affects my outer world … seeing evidence that an Attitude-of-Gratitude reaps exponential returns … and first hand evidence that Capital “L” Life is an interactive player in my life. The way I see it … when challenges come along I have two choices … I can either drown in misery and hope that someone … or something … outside of myself saves me … or I can keep moving forward towards whatever distant shore it is that beckons my heart … and save myself.
